Do You Know If Your Teen is Drinking Alcohol At Their Friend’s Home? – Vol. 236, Jan. 30, 2014
Last summer I had a new client come in who was 15 years old. One of the issues that was brought up by her mother was how alone she felt in a world where other parents felt that it was quite fine to allow their kids to drink alcohol in their homes as long as a parent was there. The reasoning given is that it is safer to allow them to drink in the home then to be out drinking and driving. This behavior was not okay with this particular parent. Interestingly enough her daughter agreed with her, knowing that if she went to a party and felt unsafe or didn’t like the drinking that was happening there, she could always rely on her mother to come and get her. I found this amazing – that her teen was unwilling to stay at the party, preferring to go home, since most of the teens that I know can’t wait to have the parents out of the way so they can drink to their heart’s content.
Certainly when I was young, more than 30 years ago now, there were some parties where alcohol was included. One graduation party as I recall when the age for drinking was 18, a keg of beer was there on the lawn along with all the food for the celebration. The family involved was not one that I thought of as big drinkers as such. However, even then it was a bit surprising to me. Now, parents don’t seem to think much about the legal ramifications of having kids drinking on their property, where they become liable should anything happen to any of the kids while in their homes.
Be aware that even if you do get to know the parents, I have heard a few stories of parents out right lying about what was going on in their homes when directly asked whether drinking was allowed while they were home.
So, the questions that I am leaving you are: Are you being congruent with your behavior as that which you are expecting of your teens? Are you taking the time to get to know the parents of the kids your teen is hanging out with? And, what are you doing to let your kids know that you truly want the best for them even if that means that sometimes you will be seen as the “heavy” because you don’t sanction self-destructive behavior, especially in your own home? Remember that you are the parent and you set the boundaries of what occurs in your home, so long as you take control of the situation and do as you say.

Is It Really Necessary to Have Recreational Marijuana Sold in Stores Here in The United States? – Vol. 235, Jan. 23, 2014
New Year’s Day Colorado legalized recreational marijuana to be sold in stores throughout the state. Now some people would say that this is a great idea because people can more easily access it for medical reasons. There are people who use it to help increase appetite and other issues related to cancer. Other people use it to help fight PTSD and are unable to get it for that purpose. According to WebMD marijuana is smoked for all these reasons: nausea, glaucoma, mucous membrane inflammation, leprosy, fever, dandruff, hemorrhoids, obesity, asthma, urinary tract infections, cough, weight loss in AIDS patients, pain, and multiple sclerosis. It is also inhaled to weaken the immune system after kidney transplant to lessen the chance of transplant rejection. I would say that if this is the reason the drug is use, it ought to be dispensed as a medical substance only.
Whatever the reason a person may desire to use marijuana, to think that there are no side-effects from its use is erroneous at best. The drug does put people into an altered state where they are less capable of doing things that require critical thinking and perceptual skills. Over time the abuse of marijuana can cause permanent brain damage. It also most certainly causes all sorts of respiratory issues when it is smoked. If someone is using it to fight depression, it is a depressant, so it is contradiction for that purpose.
Many who are involved in the recovery movement are worried about the advertising and media that this whole situation will bring. They feel that people in recovery don’t need another “legalized” drug to be concerned about. In that regard I do agree. I have a hard time understanding why it is that this country is so hell bent on finding ways to create ever more bad habits bringing ill health to the masses.
If you are a person who feels that you desire or need marijuana to feel good, I have a different solution for you. How about you put yourself into a nice relaxed state, a state of hypnosis. Being in this naturally altered state can allow one to feel wonderfully relaxed with other indicators allowing you to know that you are in an altered state – that is with a bit of practice you can get there. While in this state you can give yourself all sorts of suggestions (affirmations done while in trance state) that will help you to meet your goals. You see once you have learned how to put yourself into trance, the desire for drugs is no longer there – you have your own way to feeling great without any adverse effects reactions. So how do you do this? It’s really quite simple. You can get started by listening to one of my free downloadable hypnotic recordings. Here is how you can access it:
If you sign up for the “Wake Up Doc” book you will be given access to a Free Gift Page and on there you can download a hypnosis induction that will help you to Increase your self-esteem and productivity and find.

I was feeling ill at work thinking I might have strep throat because a few of my relatives that I had seen several days earlier had come down with it. So, I called my doctor and was able to get appointment at 9:30. I left work to see my doctor who did the ten minute strep test showing that I had weak strain of strep throat. She prescribed an antibiotic giving me a sample of a new antibiotic so I could get a dose in me as soon as possible allowing me to go complete my work day.
My doctor gave me a sample of the new antibiotic only having samples of new antibiotics from the drug company sales representative. I returned back to work, cleaned up, preparing to leave as soon as my work was done. As I was waiting for my work to finish (I am a chemist) I was reading the patient insert of the drug my doctor gave me-and it read- “What is the most important information I should know about Avelox? Avelox belongs to a class of antibiotics called fluoroquinolones. Avelox can cause side effects that may be serious or even cause death. If you get any of the following serious side effects, get medical help right away. Talk with your health care provider about whether you should continue to take Avelox.” Continue reading
