I am Fearful that I Have Borderline Personality Disorder – Vol. 562, August 20, 2020
This was a question from a person on Quora. The interesting thing about this whole question was that there was an answer from a retired psychiatrist that really downplayed the whole Borderline Personality Disorder diagnosis. Now being a hypnotist and basically turning my back on this thing that was contrived by the psychologists and psychiatrists to better categorize mental illness and get paid for their client sessions by the insurance companies, I have to say that it can be helpful to better understand what one is experiencing in some fashion that one can make sense out of it. So, I diverged from my usual non-labeling of mental health issues in my answer and you will find out why in the article below.
There are most definitely people who demonstrate the symptoms that would fall under the BPD label, my mother was a classic example (was because she passed away of natural causes at the age of 84 two years ago). In any case, the easiest way for me to tell if a person has it is if they do the ‘splitting behavior.’ What that means is that a BPD person will glom onto a person almost to the point of causing the other person to feel claustrophobic from all the attention – the neediness, etc from the BPD person. Then that person says 1 thing to anger, of make the BPD person feel hurt and all of a sudden they are a ‘piece of shit, never to be spoken to again’ where the BPD person will go to some other person and start whispering the details of what the first person did that was so hurtful or wrong as to force them out of the BPDs life. Many also have a weird cackle when they laugh usually over some manipulative ploy they try to get their way, since most of these individuals are very intelligent but acting on the emotional level of a 2 or 3 year old – when the emotional damage was done by their caregiver.
The thing that I want you to understand is this: unless you are diagnosed with it, don’t presume that you have it. Why make your life tough than it already is? What one needs to do is to ask themselves what is going right with your life? And, what areas need a bit of help?
If you feel the need for professional help because it is causing you a lot of strife by all means go get some professional help.
I have quite a few weblogs on this subject and many others to do with emotional disorders this being my area of specialization in hypnotism (having come to it not liking the dehumanizing way my mental health clients were treated in the conventional mental health system.
