Suzanne helped me get through one of the most difficult experiences of my life. I had endometriosis, a condition which can cause extreme abdominal pain in women. My symptoms came to a peak one day in September 2004; the pain was so bad, I could hardly walk. I could not sit, stand or curl up comfortably. The pain was so bad I was on the verge of vomiting from it.
I found myself curled up in desperation on the bathroom floor, trying desperately to contact someone for help. I had worked with Suzanne successfully on some personal issues before, but it did not occur to me to call her for pain management. In truth, I called her because in addition to working with her, she is also my friend. She lives close by and I knew she also had a nursing background, so I knew that (1) she could get to my home quickly, and (2) from a medical standpoint, she would know what to do. Ha. I didn’t know the half of it.
When I got through to Suzanne she was in a meeting in her home office. I told her I had an emergency and that I was in great pain. She was knocking at my door in less than 10 minutes. When she arrived on the scene I was in tears from the pain and I could hardly move. I didn’t want to sit down – it was uncomfortable to bend my abdomen – but Suzanne got me situated in a comfortable chair and got to work. Fifteen minutes later, Suzanne, through hypnosis, had me breathing deeply, relaxed, and able to walk with only minor discomfort. I couldn’t believe it. As I sat in the chair, not moving, I felt almost back to normal again. On a scale of 1-10, my pain had gone from a 10 – the worst pain I had ever experienced – down to a 3.
But to really understand what is so great about Suzanne, you have to hear a little more. Suzanne is great at her profession, hypnosis. But that is only part of what she has to offer.
After Suzanne did pain management work with me on that awful day, she stayed with me and made sure I called my doctor. Then she drove me to the hospital to get checked out by my doctor. To be honest, if Suzanne hadn’t brought me to the doctor, I’m not sure I would have gone that day. Fear of finding out what was wrong with me – because I knew it was something big – would probably have won out over common sense, I am ashamed to say. Denial is a powerful thing, and I am so grateful that Suzanne knew better than to let me give in to it.
Long story short, after a few more tests and an ultrasound, it was discovered that I had a several masses in my pelvic cavity, and there was no question that I was going to require major abdominal surgery.
Now, surgery is something most people aren’t too happy about, but in addition to the general dread and worry most people experience, I had an acute fear of it. Also, since the extent of the masses was unknown, I was facing the possibility of losing both my ovaries, in which case I would never be able to have children. That was a problem I never expected to be faced with, and I can’t even express the emotional distress I felt when I considered the worst-case scenario. But Suzanne was right there to offer yet more assistance. Suzanne made me a self-hypnosis tape to listen to in the weeks before my surgery to help me overcome my fears and go into the operating room with a positive, healthy outlook. The self-hypnosis worked so well I found myself actually looking forward to the surgery, and, oddly, I kept catching myself telling people that, as if I was talking about an upcoming vacation or something.
Suzanne even communicated with my doctors so they were aware of the work she was doing with me, and she followed up with me regularly to see how I was doing, what the latest diagnosis was, and to make sure I was following through on taking care of myself.
In the end, I truly came to see the surgery as a positive event, not only to remove the cysts that were causing me so much physical pain, but for the leaps and bounds in personal growth I felt in overcoming my lifelong fear. And I truly believe that going into the surgery with such a positive – I would even say spiritual – state, was a huge factor in the success of the procedure and the speed of my recovery.
Suzanne is 200% dedicated to her work and her clients, whether you want to quit smoking, build confidence, or if you have chronic pain or other medical problem. Also, while Suzanne can offer pain relief in a way the medical community cannot, she understands and respects the role of traditional medicine and supports her clients in getting appropriate medical attention when warranted. And, in addition to her expertise in hypnosis, Suzanne offers compassion, a rare sense of insight, and the kind of consistent follow through that is so hard to come by in this day and age.
I am so grateful that I called Suzanne that day – I am happy and healthy today because of it.
