Could Your Opioid Drug Addiction be Caused by A Vitamin C Deficiency?

Could Your Opioid Drug Addiction be Caused by A Vitamin C Deficiency? – Vol. 373, August 4, 2016

Isn’t it sad that we have known since 1977 that administering high doses of Vitamin C can help drug addicts to kick their habits. The oral intake of 25 to 85 g of sodium ascorbate (vitamin C) per day in segmented doses spaced throughout each day – along with some Vitamin E was found to totally reverse a drug addiction to heroin. It relieves pain while reducing the use of opioids. It increases mental alertness, visual acuity, appetite, bowel tolerance with general recovery within 12 hours of taking the first doses of vitamin C. It takes all of 4 to 6 days for a complete reversal of the addiction. The vitamin C dosage can then be gradually reduced to around 10 to 30 g per day.

How does this work? Well, the scientists Alfred Libby and Irwin Stone who cured 30 out of 30 drug addicts believe that being an analgesic, vitamin C mimics morphine, fitting into the opiate receptor sites, while it increases endorphin levels, dramatically reducing the withdrawal symptoms, and the body’s desire for drugs. These scientist believe that drug addiction is as much a nutritional deficiency as a physical and mental disease.

An additional benefit of using Vitamin C is it’s being a detoxifyer, which is very helpful for drug addicts.

This is a much better way to go then endless use of methadone, which has it’s own problems: daily treatment, cramping, causing liver dysfunction along with the cost of receiving the stuff. Sadly, after 21 days on methadone, many methadone users still want to use heroin, so it’s not the panacea that the drug treatment centers would like you to believe it is.

The reason that Vitamin C treatment gets little to no coverage is because it isn’t a money maker for the pharmaceutical market. But,that doesn’t mean that one shouldn’t use it and see how they do. Vitamin C is water soluble, so anything your body doesn’t need will be excreted in your urine anyway. Vitamin E is fat soluble so one needs to be more careful with it’s use because it can become toxic to the body. If you are going to go this route speak to someone who is educated in how to go about doing this treatment for you like a functional doctor who works with addicts.

I would also add, that getting off the drugs is only one part of the treatment. The other part of the treatment is finding a compelling future – something that you care about more than being on drugs as well as learning healthy boundaries with others. So, it isn’t a total fix, but the Vitamin C treatment will definitely get you in the right direction, so you can stay off drugs forever should you do a multi-pronged treatment.

Could Your Psychiatric Illness Not Be Psychiatric At All?

Could Your Psychiatric Illness Not Be Psychiatric At All? – Vol. 372, July 28, 2016

Over the years I have written quite a few articles that explain how illnesses that look to be a mental health problem, can be physiological conditions. Depression is one such subject that has been explored in this weblog as a syndrome, much like pain, to help us to know that there is a deeper cause that needs to be found and healed.

This week, we are going to explore how gluten can cause psychiatric looking problems in those who have sensitivities to it or are suffering with celiac disease.

Since 1951 we have known of gluten’s connection to psychotic illnesses. Sayer Ji of Greenmedinfo.com has given us the history. Patients with a diagnosis of schizophrenia are 2-3 times as likely to have immune reactivity to wheat. A study published in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition by F.C. Dohan, M.D. Titled Wheat “Consumption” and Hospital Admissions for Schizophrenia During WWII.” that compared the admission rate of women into psychiatric hospitals before and after WWII from several countries.  When wheat and rye were decreased in the diet due to the war, there were fewer admissions to psychiatric hospitals. Since then there have been many other studies to back up this finding.

We have found that gluten can cause a dysregulation of the autonomic nervous system causing many diseases. These include losing coordination – otherwise known as cerebral ataxia, decreased muscle tone, developmental delay, learning disorders, depression and migraine all without damage to the gut, or due to a nutritional deficiency. This is known as “The Gluten Syndrome.” Gliadin, a complex of proteins found in what we call gluten, is an immunotoxic class of proteins, meaning that it is toxic to the immune system.

The discovery of the antibodies to gliadin in the blood of celiac disease patients and schizophrenics could mean several things:

1. The gliadin isn’t breaking down during digestion which means it isn’t being broken down into the amino acids our body needs.

2. Wheat proteins found in the blood cause auto-immunity. This also indicates permeability of the intestines.

3. Wheat protein could be the cause of immune system attacking the nervous system causing neuropathy, ataxia, seizures and neurobehavioral changes.

In the cases where antipsychotic medication isn’t reducing the symptoms, all the while creating many more burdensome and body ravishing side-effects, this could be an explanation why.

If you remove the gluten containing grains from your diet and experience a decrease in symptoms both mental and physical, you have found the source of your problem. So easy, and yet few doctors are aware of this connection. It’s a far safer remedy then ingesting psychotropic medications that can cause brain shrinkage or risk of severe relapse due to discontinuing the drug, not to mention the toxicity to your kidneys and liver when your body can no longer rid itself of these chemicals.

8 Ways You Can Help Someone Who Is Feeling Anxious

8 Ways You Can Help Someone Who Is Feeling Anxious – Vol. 371, July 21, 2016

I have many clients who come to me who feel that they have lost their lives because of the anxious sick feelings that they have inside themselves. My clients have come to me thinking they were dying the first couple of times they experienced anxiety., as a result of the physical symptoms involved in anxiety, going to the emergency room thinking they are having a heart attack. It is a very scary feeling and one that deserves empathy.

Sometimes my clients have gotten so low, they thought that they would never be able to live a decent quality of life again. The negative thoughts come in and invade their ability to be happy.

Here are the 8 ways that we can do to help out those we care about who are suffering with anxiety:

  1.  Let them know that they can be open with you about what they are going through, without any judgment. Let them know that they can call you any time they feel anxious.
  2.  Realize that those with anxiety realize that that their fears shouldn’t be so strong, and yet using logic isn’t a help to them at all.
  3.  Being with others, will help their anxieties to lessen.
  4.  Go out in nature to a calming place.
  5.  Get them to do some deep breathing. The best way to do this is to have the person take a deep breath in and hold it for a couple of seconds and then exhale it. Have them do this three or four times.
  6.  Have them stay away from alcohol and drugs because these can bring on the anxiety.
  7.  Make sure they are eating healthy whole foods so that their body has what it requires to function appropriately.
  8.  Learning meditation or self-hypnosis will help them to relax which is the opposite of being anxious.

The anxiety came into existence for a reason. It’s important to recognize that fact. Generally something negative occurs and then thoughts of that time, or situations similar to that situation will trigger the anxiety. If the anxiety has been there for a while these circumstances can broaden out with many more events triggering these feelings of anxiety. For most people to be totally rid of the anxiety, these causes need to be understood, dealt with and released. However, the suggestions given above can help you to assist a person you care about to gain some immediate relief, and be very grateful to you for being there for them.
