There are a lot of people who are afraid of being in closed spaces such as elevators or MRI machines. There are also people who do not enjoy going to theaters or seminars because there are too many people in an enclosed space. Fear of flying usually results from having to be in the enclosed space of an airplane. Interestingly enough, in most cases of claustrophobia, it is really a matter of lack of being in control of the situation that creates the feelings of panic or discomfort; as a result, sufferers find their world shrinking as they cut out these uncomfortable situations.
