Vol. 59, December 2007 – Inner Conflict Stopping You From Doing Something Important In Your Life?

Can you think of a time in your life when you had conflicting feelings about making important decisions? Perhaps an inner conflict created difficulty in achieving a goal that you wanted to achieve. A simple example of how this is the decision to quit smoking: even though a person may want to stop smoking, there is something within that is not ready and keeps sabotaging the goal. It is this part that is being run by the unconscious mind. Continue »

Vol. 58, November 2007 – Claustrophobia: Does it Hinder Your Life?

There are a lot of people who are afraid of being in closed spaces such as elevators or MRI machines. There are also people who do not enjoy going to theaters or seminars because there are too many people in an enclosed space. Fear of flying usually results from having to be in the enclosed space of an airplane. Interestingly enough, in most cases of claustrophobia, it is really a matter of lack of being in control of the situation that creates the feelings of panic or discomfort; as a result, sufferers find their world shrinking as they cut out these uncomfortable situations. Vol. 57, October 2007 – Psychological Sexual Dysfunction: Does This Describe You?

Every now and again, I receive calls from potential clients who are having difficulty having sexual relations with a loving partner, such as a recent call from a man who experienced stomach pain and had difficulty keeping his erection every time he was sexually active with his partner. I asked him was if he was checked out by a medical doctor, to rule out any potential physiological problems; he gave me a very long list of specialists with whom he had consulted, and none of them was able to find any physical reason for his pain. Vol. 55, August 2007 – Are You Obsessing About Your Obsessive-Compulsive Tendencies?

Obsessive-compulsive behavior is anything that you do to such an extreme extent that it gets in the way of your daily life. These behaviors can be anything from washing your hands far too often or for too long a period of time, to compulsive overeating or using the Internet to find sexual pleasure and thereby wasting hours of your time and perhaps spending money you do not have. Using the hypnotic methods included in neuro-linguistic programming, it is relatively easy to let go of these behaviors. Continue »

Vol. 53, June 2007 – Moving Away From Addictions to A “Normal” Life

A couple of years ago I got a call from a man who was in a very difficult situation: he had gotten himself a criminal record by stealing jewelry from stores in order to feed his drug habit. The only problem was that he was still on the drugs, and could I help him get his life in order? I received a few calls from this gentleman over the years, always wanting to kick his habits and get straightened out but it was too difficult to not do the drugs. Then he called me recently to tell me that not only had he been off the drugs for the mandatory one month I had set. Continue »

Testimonial – Laurie, Boston

Life is hard for all of us. So to find the right tools to get through it in one piece and find happiness along the way is a challenge. Before I ever used hypnosis with Suzanne I had seen doctors, therapists, the best of friends, incredible mentors and [read] books, books, books all of which gave hints, small candies of hope to get over destructive eating, depression and a general refusal to be a self-loving adult – but none of their advice or treatment sunk as deeply or helped me as richly as hypnosis with Suzanne. Vol. 52, May 2007 – “What’s Eating You?”

Recently I had a client who could not understand why she was literally eating herself to death. She was in her 40’s and had been fairly healthy until recently; in the past, it was easy for her to go out running every day, which she had been doing to keep in shape ever since she was in the military. Yet, all of a sudden, there was no interest in running and she started eating sweets compulsively. What was going on here and could I help her with hypnosis? Continue »

Vol. 51, April 2007 – Are You Smoking to Cover Up A Deeper Problem?

I have been receiving phone calls for smoking cessation -where the smoking cessation is the presenting problem but is not the real problem.

What do I mean by that? It is true that people smoke because they feel that it relaxes them, but it does not relax them because nicotine is a stimulant. In many cases, what smoking really does is help to cover up other issues that they are not dealing with. Continue »
