Vol. 1, February 2003 – Hypnosis and Weight Loss is in the News

Hypnosis is being talked about more and more everyday in the popular press. I saw an article in the October 1st Woman’s World on how a person lost 65 pounds using hypnosis. And yes this was the cover article. The Boston Globe, Tuesday, October 29, 2002 did an article on hypnosis during surgery in order reduce the need for anesthesia, while also reducing the discomfort afterwards. Even the Harvard Mental Health Newsletter did not one article but a two-part series on the various uses for hypnosis in May and June of 2002. Obviously the larger world is looking to hypnosis as a way to deal with medical and psychological problems and in many cases they are finding that it is a great way to go.

In all of these writings hypnosis was found to work. The act of relaxation does much to reduce stress, which increases pain. Stress increases the hormone cortisol, which makes it hard for the body to metabolize food, increasing weight. People in our society today are so stressed out they are becoming depressed, or suffering from other types of health problems.

According to the Harvard Mental Health Newsletter the best use of hypnosis was in pain management. It can also be used for bedwetting, sexual problems, asthma, warts, gastrointestinal disorders and side effects from chemotherapy.

In the treatment of anxiety and phobias, hypnosis may serve to dissociate physical discomfort from mental anxiety halting the intensity of physical and emotional distress.

I have seen my clients quickly deal with issues that were causing them to be stuck in situations, or with feelings they did not wish to have. In a few short sessions many blocks were removed and on they went with a better quality of life feeling much freer and capable of doing and being what they desired.

Sometimes when someone calls for a reason, lets say for weight loss while in trance other issues come up. When this happens it is really the subconscious forcing the client to deal with the feelings. Once that is accomplished the weight loss can be successfully accomplished.

Hypnosis is the only way I know to handle a lot of distressing situations without the need for medication in many cases. It is usually a pleasant experience and who can argue with the results. When the hypnotism is done in a professional manner with the client’s interest and concerns at hand many amazing results are the norm.
